Today Silas had his first breakfast with us...mushed up bananas. He shows a lot of interest in food and I have been including him in our evening mealtime by giving him pieces of apple or pear in his fresh food feeder. This way he learns to associate this family time as food time too. This morning Willow and I were having eggs and toast and he seemed to want to get in on the action. He ate several small spoonfuls and seemed very excited. Welcome to a whole new world of food pleasure, little buddy!

Silas had his visit with the community health nurse today. She came over to the house to start him on his immunizations. She was the same nurse who saw him right after he was born. She marveled at how well he was growing and what a strong and healthy baby he is. She measured and weighed him, he is 28 inches long and 17.5 lbs. That puts him in the 75th percentile for weight and the 97th percentile for height. He certainly isn't the super chubby baby type...but he is healthy and growing super well nontheless. His motor skills development is quite a bit ahead of his age...he is practically crawling! I call is 'scootching', but he is basically dragging himself on his belly to get to where ever he wants to be. He grunts and squeaks out of excitement and frustration...it is so awesome! He certainly did not like the needles (who does?) he screamed and then cried and cried. Willow was supposed to have the job of shaking a tambourine to distract him, but as she saw his misery, she slowly and quietly jingled it, even she looked disturbed. But it wasn't anything that little bit of cuddling and milkies couldn't take care of. Tonight he is a little out of sorts, but between the new tooth and now this, he has had a tough couple days for a little guy. I am gad to say he is, for the time being anyways, sleeping peacefully.

Ok, here is a big milestone that I am actually going to record....today or rather last night, Silas cut his first tooth! The bottom right one has just peeked through. I knew it was coming for quite some time he has been in distress. He is still not happy and tonight has been squealing and crying a lot. Poor little man. I know that sometimes this is a milestone that is greatly celebrated but I know that it does mark the beginning of months and months of more teething pain so I feel a little mixed about it. I guess the good thing is that arrival teeth are a sign that baby is ready for solid foods, which is great because I can see this little guy chomping at the bit to get started on food. I already give him apple and pears in his mesh feeder and he smacks and sucks away eagerly. I think he is going to be the type to really enjoy his food!

Well, I just can't believe that my little guy is five months old already! He is such a little mover, it is just amazing to see! What started off as tummy time, playing and reaching for toys has now turned into a strange but effective type of tummy crawling. He can literally drag himself, using his feet to push and his hands to pull, to wherever he wants to be in the room. I can't believe that the days of not being able to take my eye off of him for more than 5 seconds are alive and well! HE can roll over from front to back and back to front with ease. He still loves to spend time in his excersaucer, and the jolly jumper....anything to keep him up right and moving. But by far his favorite things to do are getting into whatever his big sister is doing...whether it be books or blocks or running around crazy making....his eyes are usually on her. We moved the crib into our bedroom, Willow never did sleep in it and it has basically been used as a clothing and toy storage space ever since....but not now, Silas actually naps and sleeps (at least a part of the night) in it. I think he actually like it in there, which is great! I started giving him tastes of the first foods and he is really excited by that. So far he has tried apple, banana and pears in his fresh food feeder. I think that this guy will be a big foodie one day, if the interest he's showing now just continues. Silas is one bright eyed, big smiling, cutie pie of a guy! All I can say is WOW watch out world!

Silas has just settled right into life with the SWAN family. We went on a family walk today..the weather has really warmed up so we knew we had to take advantage of it. It's fun to watch Silas staring out at the world from his stroller vantage point. His eyes look so wide and fascinated with the trees. Its funny because Willow seemed to get a little bored and then fell asleep, but the Little Man stayed awake, looking looking looking. Afterwards we visited out favorite neighborhood cafe...check out how at home he is!
